Eligibility
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
- A parent or guardian must sign a waiver for volunteers under 18.
- All volunteers should have a passion for animals and be willing to support the shelter’s mission.
Application Process
- Complete the online volunteer application form.
- Attend a brief orientation to learn about BAAB’s mission, policies, and volunteer expectations.
Volunteer Roles
- Animal Care Assistant: Assist with feeding, grooming, walking, and playing with animals.
- Adoption Support: Help with the adoption process, including matching animals with potential families, assisting in interviews, and providing adoption support.
- Fundraising and Events: Help organize and run fundraising events and outreach programs to promote BAAB and its mission.
- Shelter Maintenance: Assist with cleaning, organizing, and ensuring the shelter is kept in top condition.
Volunteer Expectations
- Volunteers must maintain a positive and professional attitude when interacting with staff, animals, and visitors.
- Volunteers are expected to complete their scheduled shifts as agreed upon. If unable to attend, volunteers should notify the Volunteer Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance.
- Volunteers must work directly with the Facility Director to coordinate tasks and responsibilities.
- All volunteers must adhere to BAAB’s safety and hygiene protocols, including proper handling of animals and the use of cleaning supplies.
Training & Orientation
- Volunteers must attend an orientation session before starting.
- Specific training for roles, such as animal care or handling, will be provided as needed.
Health & Safety
- Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes.
- Volunteers should be prepared for physical activity (e.g., walking dogs, lifting supplies).
- All volunteers must follow BAAB’s policies on animal care and emergency procedures.
Termination of Volunteer Service
- BAAB reserves the right to terminate a volunteer’s service if they fail to follow guidelines, demonstrate unprofessional behavior, or compromise the safety of animals or people.
Confidentiality
- Volunteers are expected to maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive information they may learn about BAAB’s operations, animals, or adopters during their service.
