BAAB was born from a single moment of compassion and an unshakable determination to make a difference. It started in college when I first tried to adopt a dog, only to realize my living situation wouldn’t allow it. As I was leaving the shelter, I witnessed an old man surrender a matted, neglected dog. The shelter worker grabbed him roughly, tossing him into a cold concrete kennel. His yelp cut through me—I knew I couldn’t just walk away.

I insisted on adopting him immediately, promising to handle all his medical needs myself. After a bath and grooming, he transformed from an unrecognizable stray into a beautiful, energetic poodle. He looked at me with trust and gratitude, and I knew we were meant to be together. I named him Benji, after my childhood stuffed animal, and he became my unwavering companion.

Years later, in my darkest moment, Benji became more than just a pet—he was my protector. When my life was in danger, he leaped to my defense, giving me the chance to escape an abusive relationship. I left everything behind except him. He had saved me just as I had saved him.

For fourteen years, Benji was my guardian, my confidant, and my best friend. When I had to say goodbye, the pain was unbearable. But from that loss came a mission—to honor his legacy by rescuing and protecting animals in need, just as he had once protected me.
